Apparently, Panos Panay is joining Amazon, according to Bloomberg. The former Microsoft executive in charge of Windows and Surface announced his resignation earlier today. According to Bloomberg, he is joining Seattle's other enormous tech business to manage Amazon's extensive hardware line.
Panay, who had a key role in the development of Surface products and much of their success, won't be speaking at Microsoft's announcement on Thursday. He will continue working at Microsoft for a few weeks to complete the transition procedure before switching to Amazon.
Dave Limp, the departing hardware manager at Amazon, will be replaced by Panay. After a 13-year career at Amazon, Limp revealed in August that he would be retiring in the coming months, leaving huge shoes to fill. Limp is anticipated to appear at the devices and services event that Amazon is hosting on Wednesday.
According to Bloomberg, Panay would oversee Amazon's division for its Alexa and Echo speakers. His position's title is unclear, and neither Amazon nor Microsoft would comment on Bloomberg's claim
Amazon has been attempting to expand its hardware footprint in recent years to include robots and even drones for in-home surveillance. The $1.7 billion acquisition of iRobot, the manufacturer of the Roomba robotic vacuum, by Amazon is also ongoing. Upon authorities' approval of the agreement, Amazon will possess a variety of hardware, including as Alexa devices, Ring doorbells, and other smart home gadgets.
