Apple just released its big annual iPhone update. Here’s what’s new and how to install it

Apple today released iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, the latest operating system updates that are designed for the iPhone and iPad. As with all of Apple's software updates, iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 are available for free. iOS 17 is compatible with the iPhone XR/iPhone XS and later, while iPadOS 17 runs on the iPad mini 5 and later, the iPad 6 and later, iPad Air 3 and later, the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and later, all 11-inch iPad Pro models, and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro.


By navigating to Settings > General > Software Update on supported iPhones and iPads, users can download Apple's upgraded software, which is build 21A329. Due to strong demand, it can take a few minutes for the updates to reach every user.

With the inclusion of interactive widgets and StandBy, a new feature that transforms the iPhone into a little home hub while it is charging, iOS 17 builds on last year's Lock Screen enhancements. Signs and Stickers The iMessage app unifies all of your stickers, including emoji stickers, Live Stickers, Memoji, Animoji, and third-party sticker packs.
- Live Stickers are produced by extracting the subject from images or videos and stylizing it with effects like Shiny, Puffy, Comic, and Outline.
- Audio message transcription is available for audio messages you receive. - Check In automatically notifies a family member or friend when you arrive at a location safely and can share useful information with them in case of a delay.- For audio communications you receive, transcription is available so you can read them right away and listen later.Add them now and pay attention later.

You can now combine search filters like persons, phrases, and content kinds like photographs or links to discover exactly what you're looking for, which will help you find messages more quickly. You can also swipe to reply to a message inline by tapping any bubble and moving your finger to the right.
- After using verification codes with AutoFill in other apps, the one-time verification code cleanup feature immediately removes them from the Messages app.

FaceTime lets you use your iPhone as a camera during chats on Apple TV (Apple TV 4K second generation and later), capturing exactly what you want to say when someone does not answer your FaceTime call.
- Reactions surround you with 3D effects like hearts, balloons, confetti, and more. You may modify the intensity of Studio Lighting and Portrait mode in video effects, which can be triggered with gestures when you're on a video call.

When your iPhone is lying on its side and charging somewhere like your nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk, StandBy gives you a full-screen experience with glanceable information like clocks, photographs, and widgets that you can view from a distance.
